Racism- the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. People with racist beliefs might hate certain groups of people according to their racial groups.I wrote down the definition of racism because I don't think its something you are born to be, but its something you force yourself to believe. Its not something you have to be, so i think racist people should stop and think about the huge impact that they are making on our world.
Most of the time when people think of racism, they think of white American's disliking African Americans but thats not the only conflict.

Kourtney--I think most people would say racism is wrong. So where is the controversy? I am glad you are tackling such a huge topic--and there is a lot of potential for controversy here, believe me. I just think you are going to need to narrow it down. Racism can play into all sorts of arguments--affirmative action, illegal immigration, hate crime laws, etc. For example, one current controversy concerning race talks about hate crime legislation. You can receive a larger penalty for a crime that is deemed racist than a crime that is not racist. Some people think this is good, while others disagree--they say a crime should be punished harshly regardless of the motive. Think about your issue in this way. What are some of the controversies you could explore?
