KKK & OBAMA

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/11/06/the-klan-chimes-in-on-obama/?scp=1&sq=kkk%20and%20obama&st=cse

While reading this article I discovered that some of the KKK members do not want to assassinate Obama, they just think that he will mess up and they can just laugh in the voters faces. I just think that they should not make a big deal about this because they should know that the country has changed the past 50 years, and more African American's have been making a big impact in America. It might be a good thing that Obama is the new president because it could change racist peoples minds, and i do think that racism will decrease but only if Obama does good.

HOW EXTENSIVE IS RACISM IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS?

In the progressively liberal, mostly white community of Eugene, Oregon, a study (Savard and Aragon) found that racism exists and may be on the increase. The report stressed the frequency of racial jokes and slurs, derogatory racial stereotyping, and (less often) violent acts left unpunished by school authorities.

Augustine Garcia (1989) notes that our inner cities and areas of high density immigration (California, Florida) are experiencing the intimidation and irrational violence of Neo-Nazi skinheads and racial gangs. Children from dysfunctional families are particularly susceptible to peer pressure to adopt a racist posture.

It is not just the condescension and violence exhibited toward minorities that must be taken into account when looking at incidents of racism. Restrictions on minorities' opportunity to succeed are often racially determined. For example, Asian-Americans incur resentment for academic excellence and "overachieving." If racism is explicit at the street level of society, it is often implicit and equally entrenched at the highest levels.

*This article talks about racism is increasing in public schools. Also they talk about how when kids are little they just associate with there own race and they get used to that, so when they get older they don't expanded there friends they just stay the same and some of become racist. I do think that racism in schools is growing, at least three to four times a day i hear something racist.

Obama

Today Obama being the new president is the big issue. This article talks about how some people fear that Obama is going to be assassinated. Looking back at the history of president Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. they were assassinated because they believed that everyone should be treated equally. I thought that the United States was a country for change? Why do people hate someone for being different?

Racism- the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. People with racist beliefs might hate certain groups of people according to their racial groups.

I wrote down the definition of racism because I don't think its something you are born to be, but its something you force yourself to believe. Its not something you have to be, so i think racist people should stop and think about the huge impact that they are making on our world.

Most of the time when people think of racism, they think of white American's disliking African Americans but thats not the only conflict.

This video tells about the Jena 6 which took place at Jena High School in Jena, Louisiana, on December 4,2006. Six black boys beat up a white boy at there school because he was saying rascal comments.

This article talks about how a man thinks that just because Barack Obama is the new president, does not mean that racism is gone and that white people still hold down African Americans.

~I strongly disagree with what this man is saying, i think that times have changed a lot and that everyone should be treated equally. Just because someone is different then you, you shouldn't dislike them.

Quotes!

"Racism is man's gravest threat to man-the maximum of hatred for a minimum of reasons."- Abraham J. Heschel

Prejudices are the chains forged by ignorance to keep men apart.
-Countess of Blessington

We learn to be racist, therefore we can learn not to be racist. Racism is not genetical. It has everything to do with power.
